Catching Up

I guess it's a good thing no one reads my blog here!! They'd think I had no life if they did.

Okay, Christmas: Normal. Went on vacation to Galveston the day after for eight glorious days. Too bad the weather didn't know it was supposed to be glorious. It was cold, I had to wear a jacket, but the food was good.

I went with a friend of mine who lives in Louisiana. She is a teacher and was off for winter break. She had never been on vacation without her family. I'd never been on a vacation with just one of my friends. New experience for both of us.

There is a great place there called Moody Gardens. It's a resort near the Schlitterbahn. They have three pyramids. The first is an acquarium, the second is a rain forest pyramid (which was my favorite), and the third was a discovery pyramid with an exhibit about sound.

My friend, Donna, loved the aquarium. She went nuts for the penguins and the seals. She thought they were just so cute. They had all sorts of penguins just as they would in the arctic. It was quite cute. I got some decent photos too.

They had two exhibits in the aquarium where they showed how they grow coral so none is taken from the ocean, and a seahorse hatchery. They had tiny seahorse fry in little fry boxes inside the tanks. I mean TINY. Despite being so small you could see their very distinctive shape. That was really, really cool.

The rainforest pyramid took my breath away. Keep in mind I’m not a huge fan of interactive exhibits, but this one was great. They had birds, bugs, mammals, and everything in between wandering freely round this huge, multi-floored building. It was hot, of course. They had a lynx who was just gorgeous. The three toed sloth was found for us by one of the employees. I would have never found it on my own. I took a picture but all you see is the pipe work it was laying on. You can’t see it at all. There were fish in this huge structure. There were turtles and lizards and geckos. It was fun, incredible, beautiful, exciting, and more. I wish I could go back!!!

We played in the discovery pyramid. There was a room that was a voice synthesizer. You could make your voice sound like a chipmunk, piano, or Darth Vader. The entire exhibit was fun because we acted like kids. I think that made if even more fun.

Towards the end of the holiday I came down with a cold that can’t seem to find the exit. I’ve still got it. I’ve decided to let it run its course. As my friend, Kristin, says “I surrender!”

January: Pretty uneventful. WAIT!! I bought a truck!! I bought a Toyota Highlander in blue and have named him Beast. Yup, the Marvel Comic Hero theme goes on!!!

February: Addison did something that puzzled and irritated me a bit. He sent a forwarding order from his house in Florida (where I’ve never lived) to my mother’s house in Maryland. I’ve never lived there. To my knowledge I’ve never received mail there. If I did all he had to do was put “return to sender – does not live at this address” on the envelope and drop it in a mail box. That would have ended that. I don’t understand, and probably never will. I did call and leave him a voice mail and was a bit of a smart ass. I said that I saw he had put in an address change. I didn’t know what spurred that action. Perhaps a life change, such as his getting married. If so, mazal tov. Said goodbye. Okay, I was being a bit of a wise ass, but what the heck!! It’s not as if he cares one way or another. The man thinks I’m dirt. Okay, less than dirt. I make dirt look good.

At first it bothered me because he had to go in to a Post Office to do it and sign my name.

Work is work. Don’t expect much to change there. I’m definitely glad I have a good government job. Not recession-proof but pretty stable. No need in complaining about the thing that allows me to eat, right?
